Formerly known as Canton, Guangzhou (廣州) is located very close to Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macau forming an important business and industrial region in southern China. Sitting on the Pearl River Delta, the strategic location has made Guangzhou a key link on ancient trade routes. Today, the city has over 13 million inhabitants and the whole agglomeration with adjacent cities has a total of over 28 million people. The region is known for its local specialty products that one should look for as a visitor – the colorful porcelain, Cantonese embroidery, Zhujiang beer, and Cantonese cuisine.

Guangzhou has become a leading Chinese industrial center with manufacturing and commerce as two top sectors. Its famous Canton Fair, held twice a year, is the best, oldest and largest (over 24 000 exhibitors during each fair) trade fair in the country connecting local producers with foreign buyers. The city has two main large industrial zones where most of the factories are concentrated. Shopping enthusiasts can shop for days in Guangzhou’s many shopping malls and pedestrian streets. Top examples of awe-inspiring post-modern architecture that one should see are the Canton Tower, the Guangzhou Opera House and the Guangzhou Olympic Stadium. Shamian Island is a charming and relatively peaceful historic area worth seeing. The amusement parks, gardens and green zones are popular leisure venues for locals and visitors.

Canton Fair being the great event in the city, many hotels and business related services are concentrated near the China Import and Export Fair Complex where the fair is held. Poly World Trade Centre and the Guangzhou International Trading Centre are other enormous venues for large events, show, exhibitions and conventions. With large crowds of fair attendees and exhibitors, the city is equipped with a wide selection of accommodations and business venues that are capable of accommodating any requirements for your business event. Besides planning your meetings and events, the local organizers can help you bundle various customized leisure activities for groups (guided tours, cooking classes, off-site dinners, tai chi lessons) so that your company function or meeting is unforgettable. Hotels and venues also offer special programs and activities for partners of the meeting attendees. These can be Spa visits, special interest tours, river cruises or even guided shopping tours.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (廣州白雲國際機場) (IATA code: CAN) is located just 34 km north from the downtown and is the main seat for China Southern Airlines, FedEx Express, Hainan Airlines and Shenzen Airlines.
