Penang - one of the Malaysian states can be found on the north-western coast consisting of the Penang Island and the hinterland of Seberang Perai on the mainland. The capital city of George Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Penang lies at the crossroads of north and south and thus has been a merchant port where centuries of European and Chinese influence left their mark on local traditions, customs and multiracial inhabitants. It is a highly developed and urbanized state with strong industrial and manufacturing economies. Construction and technologies are the next largest revenue generators. Several leading IT companies (Dell, Osram, Intel, Motorola etc.) have factories in Penang. Thriving sectors are services, finance, and tourism. The number of retired expatriates is gradually increasing as the Malaysian government supports the program (MM2H) that welcomes newcomers under certain conditions. Tourists and long-term visitors come here for calm seas, golden sand endless beaches, tropical paradise, Penang-unique cuisine and local culture. Everybody can find something to enjoy – nature, historical sites, sunbathing, water sports and overall easy-going vibe.
